In the year marking the centenary of the birth of Mário Soares, one of the most important and multifaceted figures in Portugal's contemporary history, the FMSMB is challenging the scientific community to analyse, debate and reflect on his intellectual and political career. This initiative proposes reflections on various thematic areas, such as: resistance to the Estado Novo, deportation and exile; the construction of democracy after 25 April; social challenges and public policies; decolonisation and relations with Portuguese-speaking countries; democratic socialism: from ideology to practice; the construction of Europe and the vision of the world; defence of the environment and the oceans; education, science and culture; the historiographical and intellectual work of Mário Soares; media representations and historical memory of Mário Soares.
